Lake Bohinj

Lake Bohinj is a glacial lake located in the Triglav National Park, in northwestern Slovenia. It is the largest permanent lake in Slovenia, with a surface area of approximately 3.2 square kilometers and a maximum depth of 45 meters.

The lake is surrounded by mountains, including the Julian Alps, and is a popular destination for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, swimming, and fishing. There are numerous trails and paths around the lake, as well as a network of biking routes.

One of the most popular attractions at Lake Bohinj is the Savica Waterfall, which is located at the head of the lake and can be reached by a short hike. The waterfall drops 78 meters into a narrow gorge and is one of the most visited natural attractions in Slovenia.

Another popular attraction is Vogel Ski Resort, located on the south side of the lake. The resort offers skiing and snowboarding during the winter months, as well as hiking and mountain biking during the summer.

The lake is also home to the Museum of Alpine Dairy Farming, which offers a glimpse into traditional Slovenian farming practices and the production of cheese and other dairy products.

Bohinj is easily accessible from Ljubljana by car, bus, or train. The journey takes approximately one hour and thirty minutes. Visitors can also reach Bohinj by boat from the nearby town of Ribčev Laz, which offers scenic views of the lake and surrounding mountains.

The lake is a popular destination for tourists and can become crowded during the summer months, so it is recommended to plan your visit in advance and arrive early in the day to avoid crowds.
